Pesticide Poisoning

People think of pesticides as being the chemicals crop-dusting planes spray on fields. While this true, pesticides are also found in common household products, including weed killer, insect killers, mold and germ killers, etc.

Many health experts suggest using non-chemical methods to kill weeds and insects before using products that contain chemicals that are harmful to you, your family, and your pets.

Other household products that can contain pesticides and other poisons include:
  • Laundry powder
  • Floor polish
  • Paint
  • Oven and drain cleaners
  • Yard care products

Unfortunately, many of us are unknowingly exposed to these chemicals because we aren’t sure what ingredients are in products, or we live next to neighbors who use the chemicals on a regular basis. Some people live next to farms where pesticides are sprayed regularly, and others work in environments that use pesticides and other poisons.

Disposing of the pesticides and harmful chemicals inside your home is an important first step. There are alternatives to harmful products available at natural food stores. The next step is to invest in an air purifier for your home. Finally, make sure your children and your pets stay away from yards and homes that use pesticides.

If you are still exposed to pesticide poisoning because of neighbors or construction sites, consider asking them if they will switch to an alternative product. If they won’t, it is within your rights to protect yourself from pesticides that can be carried through the air. Talk to a personal injury attorney about what you can do to protect yourself against pesticide poisoning.
