Public accidents involve large groups of people and have devastating results. They include terrorist attacks, like the Oklahoma City bombing and the 9/11 attack. They also include injuries and deaths that occur at amusement parks and other public attractions.
Although there is no way to completely avoid public accidents, there are some things you can do to be as safe as possible. For example:
- Always know your escape and evacuation routes
- Decide on a designated meeting spot if you should get separated from friends or family
- Have a cell phone with important numbers saved in it
- Consider carrying extra snacks and a bottle of water
- Listen to any orders emergency personnel may give you
- Don’t panic; keep a level head and assess your situation
Also, consider checking the safety records of amusement parks and rides. Make sure you and your children follow the rules while on amusement rides, including keeping your hands and feet away from moving parts, staying seated and seat-belted, and listening to ride operators.
Talk to your children about what to do in the event of a school shooting. Although you can’t foresee all possibilities, they should try to call 911, stay inside their classrooms and lock the doors if possible, listen to their teachers, and escape if they can.
Unfortunately, these horrific incidents do happen. If you or a loved one experiences a public accident, contact a personal injury attorney immediately.
