Work accidents and injuries occur all the time, and they can be serious. Employees hurt their backs lifting heavy objects, they slip and fall, or they injure themselves with tools or equipment. Millions of Americans are injured every year at work, and more than 6,000 die from workplace injuries.

If you are injured at work, it is important to seek advice. Employers are bound by law to compensate their employees if they are injured at work, although some employers don’t. Employees can receive Worker’s Compensation or other compensation to cover medical expenses, lost wages, and other financial results of getting injured.

The majority of injuries involve muscle strains. Make sure to follow all safety procedures required by your company, and be sure to lift and carry heavy items properly: By using your leg muscles to lift instead of bending over and straining with your back. Also, if you work on slippery surfaces, wear appropriate foot wear with non-slip soles.

Your company should post safety rules and procedures, and if they don’t, ask them to. Also, managers and supervisors should be trained to deal with any employee injuries. When working with harmful substances, such as chemicals, there should be appropriate First Aid and wash stations available. Also, employers should indentify and work to fix anything that presents a hazard to employees.
