Alternative medicine practitioners use Bismacine to treat Lyme disease. However, the FDA has never approved Bismacine, and the injectable drug has resulted in several injuries and at least one death. People should refrain from using Bismacine and seek treatment if they have complications related to Bismacine. Bismacine is also called “chromacine.”
Lyme disease is caused by a tick bite that spreads a certain type of bacteria into the bloodstream. Symptoms include:
- fever
- headache
- rash
- fatigue
The disease is diagnosed by reviewing the patient’s symptoms, and it can be tested in the lab. Antibiotics can easily cure the disease if administered and taken correctly. However, some alternative medicine practitioners, people who may or may not have a medical degree, have started to use Bismacine to treat Lyme disease.
According to the FDA, Bismacine contains large amounts of bismuth, a heavy metal that is produced as a bi-product from lead and copper smelting. Bismuth can cause kidney damage, cardio-vascular damage, and large doses can be fatal. Bismuth is often used to treat stomach ulcers. Other side effects include:
- diarrhea
- skin reactions
- headache
- fever
- depression
- rheumatic pain
- liver disease
