Celebrex is an NSAID, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug marketed by Pfizer and often prescribed to arthritis patients. Celebrex reduces hormones that cause pain and inflammation in the body. It is prescribed to arthritis patients, women who suffer from painful menstruation, and people who have hereditary polyps in their colons. Celebrex increases a patient’s risk for heart attacks, strokes, and serious side effects in the stomach or intestines, including bleeding ulcers. Celebrex may cause allergic reactions to patients who have allergies to other sulfonamide-containing drugs.
Celebrex is often helpful in reducing pain and inflammation in many patients. However, it is important to be aware that side effects from Celebrex can be serious and even deadly. If you’ve experienced serious side effects that resulted in injury, contact a personal injury attorney immediately. You may be compensated for pain and suffering, and your medical bills may be covered. Side effects include:
- chest pain
- discolored or bloody stools
- discolored or bloody vomiting
- excessive weight gain
- unusual amount of urination
- flu-like symptoms
- nausea
- bruising, numbness or weakness
If you experience any of the above symptoms, stop taking Celebrex and contact your doctor immediately. If you experience any of the below symptoms, you can continue to take Celebrex, but contact your doctor as soon as possible:
- upset stomach
- bloating
- gas
- dizziness
- skin rash
- blurred vision
- ringing in your ears
You are not supposed to take Celebrex, or at least use extreme caution when taking Celebrex, if you have:
- a history of heart attack and/or stroke
- heart disease
- a history of stomach problems, including ulcers
- liver or kidney disease
- a seizure disorder
- asthma
- polyps in your nose
- a bleeding or blood clotting disorder
