Dexatrim is a weight loss product designed to help curb appetite cravings and boost the body’s ability to burn fat. Dexatrim offers a new and improved formula, an evening appetite control formula, effervescent tablets that dissolve in water, and a natural dietary supplement.
The ingredients in Dexatrim often change. Dexatrim has contained ingredients that were later banned by the FDA, and every few years Dexatrim advertises new blends of weight loss supplements. Because Dexatrim is available over the counter and is sold as a dietary supplement, it has not been evaluated by the FDA.
One of the ingredients that has been banned by the FDA is phenylpropanolamine, which the FDA has linked to hemorrhagic stroke and bleeding in men and women. Phenylpropanolamine was also used in cough and cold medicines and in many other over-the-counter weight loss products.
The FDA banned the ingredient in 2000. Once this happened, Dexatrim began using ephedrine as an ingredient. Ephedrine can cause hypertension (high blood pressure) and can cause heart disease, arrhythmia and heart attacks.
Dexatrim now uses green tea extract as a main ingredient, and calls the rest of the ingredients a “proprietary blend,” which does not list the amounts of the ingredients.
Weight loss formulas have been around for decades, and many claim to have “proven” results. However, some weight loss formulas can result in injury. If you are injured because of a weight loss supplement, contact a personal injury attorney.
