I have found that the best tool for me when studying for a test is the use of flash cards. I know it sounds juvenile, and maybe I am a bit, but it works for me every time. Different students have different techniques for prepping for their exams. I know one student who has to be in a public place to study. This makes no sense to me as I enjoy people-watching. If I try and study in a coffee shop I will get nothing done but I will be thoroughly amused by the people around me. One of my friends can only listen to classical piano music. It can’t be violin or cello music, it has to be piano. He has never been able to explain this odd study behavior but he graduated valedictorian of his college. After he told me about his studying technique I listened to piano music every time I studied, and every time I did, I fell asleep.
