Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s headquarters have been burglarized for the second time in less than four months. Two men were arrested for the crime early January 24, and it appears that they were not motivated by political reasons. However, Romney, like millions of Americans, faced a possible case of identity theft after his laptop was stolen during the break-in. However, he and his staff had performed all the necessary safety precautions, including installing password protection and encryption software on his laptop, as well as hiring security guards and investing in security cameras, which is ultimately what caught the two burglars.
The two men, 28-year-old Daniel Bradley and 30-year-old Michael Sauer, pleaded not guilty to breaking into Romney’s headquarters in Boston.
When people are victims of identity theft, it typically occurs because their personal computers are not password protected, which gives criminals access to all personal records, account numbers, and other valuable information. Identity theft also occurs when thieves take prescription bottles, bills, and other items containing personal information and identification out of trash bins.
