Car charging units for L.L. Bean air mattresses were voluntarily recalled January 18 due to risk of injury to the consumer. The charging unit can overheat and burst when it is connected to the cigarette lighter outlet inside the car. These units were sold at L.L. Bean stores and through the company’s catalog between June 2007 and August 2007, and they cost approximately $150. About 3,900 chargers were sold, and they were included in the package with the airbed and pump. If you purchased a charger, the Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends you stop using it immediately and contact L.L. Bean for a free replacement.
The charging unit recharges the pump used to inflate the air mattress, which is designed for camping and easy transport. No injuries or property damages have been reported to the CPSC yet, but it is important to stop using the charger immediately and seek a replacement.
