The CPSC announced a voluntary recall on January 31 of Baby Sterling Silver Teethers because of a choking hazard that the teethers present to the baby. The teethers are sold under the name “Heart and Car Sterling Silver Teethers,” imported by Elegant Baby and Baby Needs, and manufactured by Angel Ortiz and Fracionamiento Lomas De Taxco S/N, of Mexico.
There are hearts and car shapes on the teethers, which can break off and become lodged in the baby’s throat. There has been one report of a heart becoming lodged in a baby’s mouth.
About 200 teethers were sold for $50 between 2005 and 2006. Consumers should stop using the teethers immediately and contact Elegant Baby at (800) 334-5321 or visit the site at www.elegantbaby.com for more information.
