One million Simplicity Cribs were recalled in 2007, and some consumers are still unaware of the recall. Also, the CPSC announced today that Bassettbaby Drop-Side Cribs are also being recalled for the same reason: They pose an entrapment and strangulation risk to infants.

The cribs were voluntarily recalled by Simplicity Inc. after the CPSC received reports of two infant deaths, seven infant entrapments, and 55 other incidents involving these cribs. Bassettbaby Cribs has received no reports of injury or death.
 
The drop-side of the crib can detach and create a gap that traps and suffocates infants. In some cases, the hardware was installed upside down. Repair kits that immobilize the drop side are now available by contacting (888) 593-9274 or visiting www.simplicityforchildren.com. If you own a Bassettbaby Crib, you can call (800) 308-7485 for a free replacement or refund.
 
Also, consumers who have not participated in Simplicity’s other recall, involving Nursery-in-a-Box cribs, are also urged to call the number listed above and stop using the product immediately.

  • Chelsea and Pooh 4 in 1
Also, Simplicity cribs that used the Graco logo were recalled:

  • Ultra 4 in 1
  • Ultra 5 in 1
  • Whitney and the Trio
Bassettbaby cribs were sold at Babies "R" Us stores from November 2007 to January 2008 for about $400, and they include:
  • Model number 5446-0504
The Simplicity cribs were made in China and sold between 1998 and 2007 for between $100 and $300. CPSC is recommending parents immediately check to see if the drop-side is installed right side up. To do this, the CPSC tells consumers to “check to see that the slightly rounded rail with the decorative groove is installed at the top and the plain rail is on the bottom. Next, consumers should make sure the drop-side is securely attached to the tracks in all four corners.” Bassettbaby crib owners should stop using the crib immediately.
