Want to know where traffic is congested so you can avoid it? The best way, besides calling highway information, is to Google it! Google Maps offers a look at real-time traffic and tells you how you can bypass it to get where you want to go in less time.

Even better, some mobile phones allow you to use Google Maps while you’re already on the road. These phones include:
  • Java-enabled mobile phones
  • Palm devices
  • BlackBerry devices
  • Windows Mobile devices
  • Symbian Series 60 3rd edition devices
You can also visit www.google.com/gmm to see if your phone is supported. Google Maps for mobile phones is free, but phone service providers may charge you for text messages, data use and downloading. Check with your service provider for rate info.

Avoiding traffic and knowing the conditions can help make you safer while you drive. However, it is important to pull over while you are using your cell phone, or you can have a passenger use the phone for you. In California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Washington, it is illegal to talk on a handheld cell phone while driving.
