With so much going on in the lives of adults, it can be hard to find space to get an education. The solution many institutions of higher learning have developed is what is known as distance education. Distance education enables those who are unable to schedule time to take a course on campus the option of gaining credit by a variety of means. Telecourses are an example of a distance education class that is flexible and convenient. It consists of watching prerecorded video lectures and reading the course textbook. This can all be done in the comfort of the student’s home. Another example of distance education is online independent study. This is a way to take college classes without entering a classroom. The entire course is located online, from lectures to exams. You are able to communicate with the instructor via email or even chat with fellow classmates. Institutions of higher learning appear to be advancing quite well with the time constraints and technological advances of the new century.
