According to the FDA, Herbal Science International, Inc. voluntarily recalled 12 dietary supplements that contain ephedra, aristolochic acid, and/or human placenta. Ephedra contains ephedrine alkaloids, which can greatly stress the heart and circulatory system. Ephedra has caused heart attacks and strokes.
Aristolochic acid causes kidney damage and kidney failure.
The final ingredient, human placenta, is only in the twelfth recalled product: Seng Jong Tzu Tong Tan. Human placenta can transmit disease, and is not legally allowed to be marketed in the U.S.
The products are as follows:
Guo Min Bi Yan Wan
Fang Feng Tong Sheng San
Tou Tong San
Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang
Seng Jong Tzu Tong Tan
If you are using any of these products, stop using them, dispose of them, and consult a doctor immediately.
