Clothes and Toys Pose Strangulation Hazard to Kids24 Apr Posted by: Cara in: Adverse Events, Injuries There have been dozens of clothing and toys recalled because of the strangulation hazards they pose for children. In April alone there were five. The clothes that the Consumer Product Safety Commission are worried about are clothing items that have drawstrings that can wrap around kids’ necks, or small buttons or items that can come off and get lodged in babies’ throats.
Here are some of the recently recalled items (or items that received warnings):
Brents-Riordan Inc. is voluntarily recalling 7,400 hooded youth sweatshirts and jackets, which have a drawstring that goes through the hood.
Imaginarium Activity Centers, which are sold at Toys “R” Us stores, are being recalled. This includes about 16,400 sets, which have small parts that can detach and pose a choking hazard.
Dollar Tree stores are recalling 300,000 Cuddly Cousins Plush Insect Toys due to small parts detaching.
Dalmatian Press LLC is recalling 17,000 Little Builder Children’s Board Book Sets with Toys because the cylinder on the toy concrete mixer and the tailgate on the truck can detach.
Finally, eight firms have agreed to pay $320,000 in damages for failing to report drawstrings in children’s outerwear.
