Charles Barkley is in big trouble after taking out four $100,000 casino markers, or loads, at the end of last year. He has yet to repay them, and if he doesn’t by June 9, he’ll have a criminal complaint filed against him. Barkley, 45, borrowed the money from Wynn Las Vegas on October 18 and 19, and although he claimed he has settled his debt, according to the Clark County district attorney’s office, he hasn’t.
The former NBA star claimed on television during the pre-game show before the NBA playoffs on Monday that he had settled the debt and that he was giving up gambling. All reports show otherwise.
“I’ve been gambling 20 years. I’ve never had this happen before,” Barkley said during a radio interview. “It’s my fault I let the time lapse. I screwed up…I’m not broke, and I’m going to take care of it.”
Barkley also discussed his gambling problem with ESPN in 2006, claiming it had cost him an estimated $10 million in losses.
