Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Al Reyes, 38, was tasered and arrested early April 11 after he tried to pick a fight in a bar.

According to police, Reyes fell against a ceramic pot in the bar due to his drunken state, and when he got up, he picked a fight with a man he thought had pushed him. The man, Eduardo Mora, hit Reyes in the face and was later charged with battery. Reyes was charged with being in a fight that disturbed the peace.

Bouncers grabbed Mora, but Reyes began spitting blood on patrons and swinging his arms. Bouncers were unable to control him. An officer working extra duty told Reyes if he didn’t stop, he would be tasered. Reyes continued to thrash, and the officer shocked him until he fell to the ground. The officer then tasered him a second time when he tried to get up.
Reyes apologized to fans, teammates, and the Rays organization. The Rays are not planning any disciplinary action. Reyes was treated for a cut on his nose after the fight.
