“Black Friday” Wal-Mart Settlement11 May Posted by: admin in: Adverse Events, Injuries, Public Injuries, lawsuits Wal-Mart has agreed to a settlement amount of nearly $2 million dollars in the “Black Friday” incident that resulted in one death and injury to eleven others in their Nassau, New York store. By doing so they will not face criminal charges that were being sought, and could have only resulted in a $10,000 fine. What does this mean to the survivor’s family and others’ who were injured? Black Friday is crazy. Stores open at midnight, offering outrageous deals, and people line up ready to rush in and grab whatever they can. This year Black Friday gave people another reason to call it Black Friday, as a Wal-Mart employee was trampled to death as shoppers were ready to “blitz” the store. A good deal is great, but it is not worth trampling someone. How did these shoppers not notice there was a man on the ground, and moreover why did Wal-Mart promote this to such extents that one of their employees was killed? The question now is who is liable and how can we prevent this in the future. |
