Do generic drugs really work as well as their counterparts? That’s the question doctors, patients, are researchers across the country want to answer. The FDA issued an alert today about the prescription cough medicine Tussionex, which contains dangerous and potentially deadly hydrocodone. Lawmakers can’t understand why celebrities are endorsing certain prescription medications, according to FDA news, and they are going to do something about it. The FDA recently warned healthcare providers about the injuries caused by denture cleansers. Injuries from denture cleansers include allergic reactions, seizures, choking, and even death. One hundred and forty three million pounds of beef was put on hold at the end of January as the U.S. Department of Agriculture decided what to do about it. In the end, they recalled it. That’s not before countless numbers of Americans were already exposed to the potentially harmful meat, however, in the form of hamburgers, sloppy joes and school lunches. The Internet presents consumers with a wide variety of benefits, including being able to fill their prescriptions and order medication from the comfort of their own homes. However, shopping online for medication can be dangerous. Bioidentical hormones are steroid hormones that mimic the body’s natural hormones. Women use bioidentical hormone therapy to curb the symptoms of menopause. Some bioidentical hormones also advertise that they decrease the effects of aging and help prevent some diseases, but many health scientists remain skeptical. Fosamax is prescribed to treat and prevent osteoporosis, which is a condition in which bone density begins to decrease and bones become increasingly fragile. In serious cases of osteoporosis, bones can fracture with little or no trauma. However, the manufacturers also released a warning to doctors in 1996 indicating the seriousness of side effects caused by Fosamax, specifically the esophageal complications it caused. Over-the-counter cough and cold medicine can seriously injure or kill children under the age of 2, according to an FDA statement released on January 17. |
